Over this past academic year I have been to training, along with Rev’d Jan van der Lely, concerning the new SIAMS framework for the inspection of Church School. Part of the new inspection framework requires that all Church of England schools have a ‘vision’ based on the Bible/Bible teachings. After long consultations between the Diocese, our Ethos Committee and the Governing Body, we have come to an agreement that the new vision for our school will be, “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12).
I would like to hear your thoughts on this new vision so please let me know what your opinions are. This quote comes from John 15 in the New Testament, from this passage, ‘Jesus the true vine’, we also took 10 ‘values’ which we would like to be the guiding values for our school, these are:
respect, friendship, compassion, growth, praise, patience, peace, creation, community and joy.
We intend to use these values to guide our children by, for example, holding assemblies/collective worships based on each value for one term, so that the children can really explore what is meant by, for example, respect and community. We hope to change our school vision on letter heads and on the school website from next September.
I would also like to remind you of a few things which are coming up in the next couple of weeks. The Year 6 bike ride is on Wednesday 10 July, our school fair is on Saturday 13 July (12-2pm). Our end of year play this year is ‘Cinderella’ and will be held at the village hall at 2pm and 5.30pm on Wednesday 17 July – please could you drop your children at the village hall at 5.15pm on that evening. Our end of term Year 6 Leavers’ Service will be held at St Arilda’s Church on Friday 19 July 1.15-2.15pm, after the service you may take your child home early at the start of the holidays. Monday 22 July and Tuesday 23 July are INSET days when the school will be closed to children.
Finally, I am very sad to announce that Debbie Hall, our school Secretary of 11 years will be leaving us this July to take up a full-time Receptionist job at Castle School. On another sad note, we have just discovered that our lovely TA, Rachael Burgess who works in Class 3 has got a part-time post in Manorbrook School in Thornbury. Rachael has worked as a dinner lady and teaching assistant in our school for 7 years. I am sure you will join me in thanking Debbie and Rachael very much for their years of wonderful service to our school and wishing them the very best for the future.
