St Arilda’s Church
St Arilda’s Church sits on the hill above Oldbury village and enjoys beautiful views over the farmland to the River Severn. It is the only Church to be dedicated to St Arilda, a local Saxon Saint.
Today, Oldbury School maintains close links with St Arilda’s. Pupils regularly visit for traditional Harvest, Christmas and Easter services. School productions are also held in the Church throughout the year. The Church provides an excellent stage for performances.
As St Arilda’s falls within the parish of Thornbury pupils occasionally participate in workshops held at St Mary’s Church. These workshops focus upon a particular theme such as Easter and allow pupils to explore further the stories and traditions surrounding that event.
The Reverend Joy Ludlow is the current vicar in the parish of Thornbury and Oldbury.
